Karen Ingham Biography

Ingham was raised in the US but has lived and worked predominantly in Britain, since 1987. She is an Inter-disciplinary lens-based artist, working across the mediums of photography, film, video and digital imaging.

Her work is reflective of a post-modern concern for hybridism and for an intersection between theory and practice. It incorporates site-specific installations and temporary public art projects. These include gallery based exhibitions (solo, group commissioned and self-initiated), publications, and independent/experimental film and video.

She is Associate Senior Lecturer on the BA(Hons) Photography In The Arts and BA(Hons) Contemporary Photo-Journalism courses at the Swansea Institute Associated College of the University of Wales, where she has recently completed a research M.Phil. She is also Head of the newly established Centre for Lens-Based Arts Practice & Research at Swansea Institute.

In addition to her self-initiated and commissioned work, Ingham also works in curating and publishing photographic related subjects. Her book of curated contemporary photographic imagery, "Paradise Park", was published by SEREN, Wales, March 00.

Ingham's most recent publication, "Death's Witness", is published by Ffotogallery, Cardiff, December 00. This latest publication accompanies an international touring exhibition of the same name.
