Manuel Ferreira Artwork Details

Detailed Description

The profound, muted, soft watercolors of Manuel Ferreira have been described in a critical review as, "Perhaps to be thought of as the Winslow Homer of Portugal, displaying a perfect and experienced style where light is brilliantly reflected on sandy beaches, the blue sea, and the people who live for, by and near the sea." Mr. Ferreira was born in Aveiro, north of Lisbon in 1940. At the early age of six, he began to develop his distinctive water coloring style, preferring to build artistic, technical and theoretical foundations on his own extraordinary, natural talent. He later attended Lisbon’s School of Decorative Arts. Early in his life, Manuel Ferreira became a professional artists, concentrating his eminent abilities on watercolors that continue to play a distinguished role in international art. Manuel Ferreira has created for us an illusion of live personalities. His paintings truly are alive with the color and excitement of life in Portugal, especially the traditional life that links Portugal's past with its present. Mr. Ferreira's works are represented in private collections throughout Portugal, Spain and the United States. Pacific Edge Arts is proud to present a formal exhibition of his watercolors, all from a private collection that was purchased in Portugal and the United States through the renowned Galerias Vietra, Lisbon and Conacher Galleries in San Francisco.
