Hernandez Mompó studied Fine Arts at the University of Valencia. He lived in Paris, Rome, and in Holland where he met Mondrian, who later became one of the major influences in his remarkable work.
Mompó worked initially within the framework of figurative painting, taking as its theme scenes of everyday life. Painted quickly and intuitively, with a fresh style and color. Was gradually moving towards abstraction for the end of his career, to make it a purely abstract.
