De Maria, Walter
(California, 1935)

American sculptor and Land artist, recognized as a key figure in Minimal art and a founder of the Land art, typically consisting of large scale projects involving natural elements and materials.

He initially gained recognition with his Mile Long Drawing, a chalk drawing consisting of two parallel lines in the Mojave Desert, in 1968 and then the Lightning Field, consisting of 400 stainless-steel lightning rods, in New Mexico, 1977.
