Kees van Dongen
(Rotterdam, 1877- Monte Carlo, 1968)

Dutch-born French painter and printmaker, who gained international reputation as a leading artist of nudes and female portraits.

Dongen graduated from first starting-off as an Impressionist artist to Fauvism and held his first exhibition at the prestigious Vollard Gallery, in 1904. His most famous artwork I the Tango of Archangel, a triptych depicting a naked girl dancing with a man wearing a tuxedo. He has been widely exhibited at the leading European museums, such as the Boymans Museum in Rotterdam and Musée National d´Art Moderne in Paris.
