Dubuffet, Jean

Jean Dubuffet
(El Havre, 1901 - Paris, 1985)

French painter, printmaker and sculptor, widely recognized for his role in avant-garde techniques, Art Brut and Pop Art.

Trained at the Académie Julian in Paris, he used unique materials, such as sand, plaster, and junk, in creating his versions of Art Brut. A popular theme of his artwork is the street life of Paris, exemplified by his work, Man with a Hood (Tate Gallery, London).
